Karen is getting ready for New York again with her Runway show
set for the 13th of September and the invitations are out!

She showed this collection there back in February so it's nice
to have it in our hot little hands after months of dreaming.

North is a collection that continues Karen's fascination with outsiders
and sub cultures.
The perfect outcome of her signature look of mixing highs and lows
and femininity with masculinity.

Taking it's inspiration from the Northern Soul Dance scene, this
collection looks at Northern England's most famous disco,
The Wiggan Disco which was at it's peak in the mid to late
1970's and Dexy's Midnight Runners' album, Searching For The
Young Soul Rebels.

Karen says "There was this very working class thing, with dockworkers coats
and caps and then the racerback singlets that were worn for the more athletic
dancing.
And then there was the super femininity of some of the women's looks.
They'd turn themselves out in their Sunday best clothes with these full
skirts that really moved on the dance floor."

Style.Com said this after the show:  "the clothes looked easy and modern
and the inspiration was never too overt."

Renowned for her signature prints, this season includes a gauzy, grey,
grandma floral,  commemorative patch polka dots on crepe de chine and a
chunky knit print.

We have also received:
the Raw Bow Leather Cuff in White and Tank $106

Sydney based designer, Nathan Smith  has been doing his label for
for a while now and this season, I think he has really hit his stride.
I was really taken by his new direction.

Nathan is working on the principle of less is more which is exactly what
a basics collection should be.
Fashion seems to have shed the heavy draped jersey of season's past
and lightened up a little.

These are light and fresh and the perfect basis for your summer wardrobe.
My favourite piece is the swirling Brushed Silk Skirt, with it's elastic waist
and luxurious feeling fabric, it is a piece that you could get a lot of mileage from.

We have also received:
the Basic Tank in Ice, Black and White $60
the Washed Voile Singlet in Black and White $120

As you know, we have stocked Stephanie Downey's Dress Up collection
for a few years now and she is another young Australian designer
who has gained strength and confidence with her collections.
Nice to know that all of her pieces are made in Australia too.

Stephanie has continued some of her ideas from last season but
sharpened things up with squared off pocket details and also
squared off armholes.
Her botanical Begonia print is an exclusive print design and includes the
rich colours that she has carried through the collection in the greens
and aubergines.

Steph has also included some pieces in the collection that she showed
in Paris this year for their northern hemisphere winter, like the buttery soft
forest green leather shorts.

We have also received -
the Welt Pocket Blouse in Cream $198

Another delivery from the popular Antipodium collection that continues the
western theme particularly in the cute gingham shirt with collar tips.

The 90's inspired Powerhouse panelled jersey pieces are striking styles
in easy to wear cotton - easy impact.

If you are dreaming about summer dresses, the tiered pieces in the Fence Stripe

New Season! LOVER! +Opinel @ The Outpost + Win Portable.tv Tickets

HI Everyone!

My diary was packed last night but alas too much work to do.
If you are considering opening a small business, remember that
there could be 15 hour days involved!

So I missed the opening night of Queensland Theatre Company's latest
production, Cat On a Hot Tin Roof  (I am definitely going to catch this while it's on).

I also missed The Wonderstuff at The Tivoli AND I missed New Zealand
band Batrider at Woodland.
Brisbane is not the biggest city in the world but there sure is a lot to do sometimes.

I'm super excited to see Mick Harvey (Birthday Party/Bad Seeds) play at
GoMA Uplate tonight.
I have never seen him perform a solo show before and the gallery atmosphere
should be perfect.
Also on the programme tonight is a one hour screening of Prisoner at the Cinemateque,
talks from GoMA's Zoe De Luca and fashion theorist Ben Byrne and the evening's DJ
is El Norto (Nick Norton/Gentle Ben).

I may see you at some of the Fashion Festival?
I'm looking forward to the Australian Fashion Graduate Award which features some of the best
fashion design graduates from around Australia.

If you are not doing anything on Wednesday night, I will be part of this forum which is free -

QUT "Fashion After Hours" - in partnership with the State Library of Queensland.

8.30pm / Auditorium 1, Level 2 State Library of Queensland, South Bank / Admission Free - reserve you tickets with QTIX

'Brisbane Women in Fashion': clothing, community. A panel discussion that addresses fashion's role in our community, culture and identity.

Panellists Include: Lydia Pearson & Pamela Easton, Easton Pearson, Kath Horton, Discipline Leader, Fashion QUT and Co-founder, The Stitchery Collective, Thea Basilou, Blonde Venus, Faiza El-Higzi, The Romero Centre.

Here is what is red hot and new...

What's New at The Outpost?

The Opinel knife was invented by Joseph Opinel in 1890 in Savoie as a simple working man's
or peasant's knife.
It proved popular with the local farmers, herdsmen and paysans-vignerons (peasant winemakers)
of the area.

The Opinel has since become an iconic symbol of French culture and lifestyle.
Pablo Picasso used an Opinel to carve his sculptures and the knives were also
used by Roger Frison-Roche, the Savoyard alpine guide and mountaineer and
Eric Tabarly, the long distance solo yachtsman.

In 1985 the Victoria and Albert Museum in London selected the Opinel as part of an exhibit
celebrating the "100 most beautiful products in the world" alongside the Porsche 911
sports car and the Rolex watch.
The Opinel was also selected as one of the 999 best designs in "Phaidon Design Classics"
and has been exhibited by New York's Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) as a design
masterpiece.
Opinel is still produced in France and the company is still run by the Opinel family.

We have a range of sizes in stock, in the traditional style (no6 to no9)
starting from $20.

We also have some box sets available that come complete with a leather pouch and sharpening
steel, from $75.
