New Season! Mary Katrantzou London & More! 1st October 2010

Hi Everyone!

Hot off the success of their London Fashion Week presentation,
Antipodium's Geoffrey J Finch was in town yesterday for us to
preview his new Hothouse collection.

We caught up again last night for more fashion gossip and
a bite to eat at popular Brisbane eatery, The Cross Town
Eating House.

The London Observer picked the Antipodium collection as one of their
Top 10 Fashion Week Moments along with Richard Nicoll.

I loved the colour palette and the prints created by ex Brisbane,
now New York based illustrator/animator Craig Redman of Rinzen
fame.

Craig is more recently known for the creation of his adorable Darcel Disappoints character,
with a blog that follows Darcel's funny world and hs unique way of looking at life.
He has done recent exhibitions in London and Paris' Collette where
Karl Lagerfeld came along to fall in love with Darcel!

Take a look at Craig/Darcel's blog where he has been currently
doing the fashion week circuit, going to shows and parties
and generally looking adorable.
Alors Craig, nous vous aimons!

You may have heard a bit about the BARI Festival?
BARI is the Brisbane Artist Run Initiatives Festival.
Originally formed by the team at Jugglers Art Space in
Fortitude Valley, with the idea of encouraging and
celebrating Brisbane's independent arts and creatives,
in all it's forms.

The festival runs all through October and there is an extensive
calender of happenings that you can follow through their blog -

Last Sunday night, I made an early visit to the Troubadour to see
a performance by amazing singer and song writer McKisko.
McKisko is Helen Franzmann and in 2009 she received the
Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship for songwriting.

Her voice and songs are so beautiful and if you haven't had
the chance to see McKisko live, she is doing a residency
through the month of October at The Powerhouse.

These residencies are a great way to start your weekend, after
work on Friday nights.
They start at 6pm and are free!

If you have never seen Mary Katrantzou's pieces in real life, I have to
make it clear now that these are all digitally printed silks.
You may see swathes of silk, layered textures, popping jewels and draping
chains.
Yes, they appear three dimensional because Mary is a master at imagery
and creates the silhouette through her print design.

These Rococo delights were inspired by portraits of Madame de Pompadour
and paintings by Fragonard and Nattier.

Mary just previewed her very latest collection at London Fashion Week on
the 19th of September to rave reviews.
It seems she has a lot of fans.
See the style.com review by Tim Blanks here -

Also see the fab LFW wrap up in Grazia this week.

New from London! Peter Pilotto, Richard Nicoll, Atelier Swarovski, Arnsdorf, The Quiet Life & More! 24th September 2010

Hi Everyone!

Last night we went to a fun house show which combined
creative forces DIY style for a launch for So Far Zine, an art exhibition
including work from Georg, Andy Hardwood, Shida and Charlie Hillhouse
and live music from Per Purpose and Stag.
I love the enthusiasm.

The Valentino exhibition has been drawing lots of visitors, but also definitely
worth taking in, is the incredible photo exhibition by American Douglas Kirkland
who actually started his career in the 1950's working under the fashion
photographer Irving Penn.

Kirkland has photographed many of my Hollywood favourites including
the original Blonde Venus, Marlene Dietrich and of course
Marilyn Monroe.
You will be astounded at how many of the photos you will recognize which
is a real compliment to his work.
This exhibition runs until October 24.

I have also desperately trying to keep up with all of the Northern Hemisphere
Spring/Summer 11 runway shows and making life easier has been the
live streamings, show highlights and daily roundups that have been
conveniently created by the people at London Fashion Week and also
by Topshop in their role as sponsors.

Yes, Topshop may churn out volumes of high street "stuff" but they do
put the love back in by sponsoring some of London's most creative designers
including BV favourites Richard Nicoll, Peter Pilotto and Mary Katrantzou.
Watch the show replays and Topshop daily roundups here -

Naturally, London Fashion Week have brilliant video and photo
highlights from the shows, which you can see from here -

Wish I could have been at LFW for Antipodium who showed
their latest collection called Hothouse in an intimate presentation
style show.

Boys, you will be excited to see that they have re-introduced Menswear to their
collection and how cool does this line up look?!

Alexa Chung and Geoffrey J Finch

Long time Antipodium fan and supporter Alexa Chung was there to see the
collection and she was also out and about at a Browns Focus in-store rocking
her Hail Mary dress!

Here's the latest new arrivals and they're spectacular...

Peter Pilotto, London

Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos show the reason why their label has
risen so quickly, with such esteem, with these amazing soft sculptured
pieces.
The print work alone is incredible but they don't just rely on that.
Their shapes are works of art but flattering and wearable and that
is difficult to achieve.

Marios Schwab London
for Atelier Swarovski

Marios Schwab on the Runway...

Twist Earrings available in Black, White and also Bordeaux Swarovski Pearls $169

these fantastic pearl shapes which make a real statement.

Mountain Fold Music Journal

The latest issue of Mountain Fold Music Journal has
just arrived and features Lucas Abela, Peter Brotzmann,
Holy Balm, Liquid Liquid, Mental Powers and My Disco.
These are so collectable it's ridiculous!

Join us tonight at The Outpost for another special musical
in-store performance by Brisbane band Kitchen's Floor
for the official launch of their vinyl release of their
debut album, Loneliness Is A Dirty Mattress.

This casual gathering will run from 6:30 to around 9:30
and will also feature an opening performance by Scraps.

On Saturday night, I'll be heading over to the Queensland
Centre for Photography for an exhibition of the latest works by
Charlie Hillhouse.

Then, I believe it will be another fun night at Woodland!
Charlie Hillhouse and Patrick Byron will be playing music followed by the debut
performance from Brisbane band Dirty Mattress.
Killer dance floor tracks will then continue until the early hours brought to
you by the Woodland resident DJ's Polar Bear and Harvey Satan.
My legs are tired just thinking about it!

Fashion week has already moved to Milan - can you keep up?
C'mon, it is fun!
I am actually still dissecting the complexity of the London collections but
I'm looking forward to seeing Prada, Louis Vuitton and Celine.
Have a great weekend and see you soon.
